The Ellie Mae Classic is thrilled kick off the 2017 tournament year!
The Ellie Mae Classic will be played August 3rd - 6th at the David McLay Kidd-designed TPC Stonebrae, which opened in 2007 and enjoys a panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay Area from its southeastern Bay location. Kidd also designed renowned Bandon Dunes on the Oregon coast and the Castle Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.
TPC Stonebrae played host to the Web.com Tour in 2009 through 2012. Its first four winners were Michael Sim, Kevin Chappell, Daniel Chopra and Alex Aragon, a graduate of nearby Stanford University in 2012. No tournament was played in 2013 to make way for construction of the 32,000-square-foot clubhouse, which is set to officially open in June. The clubhouse will include casual dining options, a spacious banquet room, 25-meter lap pool, spa, expansive fitness facility, championship tennis courts and bocce courts, among other amenities. After a one-year hiatus, the Stonebrae Classic returned in 2014 to TPC Stonebrae and celebrated its re-launch with a kick- off event, hosting 156 tournament players including Tournament Champion, Tony Finau. The Stonebrae Classic saw continued growth and community impact wrapping up the week with an exciting 3- way play off resulting in awarding the 2015 Championship title to Si Woo Kim.
Now the Ellie Mae Classic, the 2016 tournament featured a field of 156 players competing over 72 holes of stroke play. TPC Stonebrae played 7,100 yards and to a par of 70 in 2016. The 2016 champion Stephan Jaeger shot a historic 58 on Friday and earned the Champion title on Sunday with another historic 4 round total of 250!
The Warriors Community Foundation serves as the event’s main charitable beneficiary, as charity continues to play a key role in every PGA TOUR-sanctioned event, with other Ellie Mae charities also benefiting.
In addition the Ellie Mae Classic supports the The First Tee of the East Bay. Proceeds from the tournament will help fund after school programming in Hayward. The mission of the TFTEB is “to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhansing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf”. Currently, the TFTEB serves over 600 kids in Oakland and Hayward through after-school and summer programming.
